Firearms Training Standards
Firearms instruction and range safety require absolute precision in both execution and documentation.
I am a POST Firearms Master Instructor and I helped write the state's firearms curriculum. When I review a firearms program I ask three questions. Was the deadly force training adequate? How was the range actually run? And did the agency certify its instructors properly?
How I Review a Case
Firearms programs leave a paper trail and I follow it. I look at qualification scores and dates, range officer certifications, course of fire documentation, remedial training records, and the agency's deadly force policy. Then I ask two separate questions. Did the agency meet the state qualification standard? And was meeting that standard enough for what this officer was asked to do on the street? A department can be fully compliant on paper and still train people badly.
What an Engagement Produces
I will read the firearms file and give you a straight answer about whether a training issue is worth pursuing. When there is one, the Rule 26 report covers qualification history, range operations, documentation, and whether the deadly force training was adequate. I also prepare rebuttal analysis, sit for deposition, and testify at trial.
